  • Highland. Joseph Speckart, a prominent citizen, died Sunday evening of paralysis, aged 74 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was born in Germany in 1830, and when 21 years old came to America, landing at New Orleans, from where he went to St. Louis and thence came out to Highland in 1852. He opened a meat market here which he operated with success until 1886, when he retired from business. In 1853 he was married to Miss Carolina Bellm. The union was belssed with eight children. In 1885 his wife died and in 1889 he married Miss Josephine Brenzinger. One son was born to the second union. He leaves his wife, four sons and three daughters, besides numerous grandchildren, relatives and friends. The funeral will be held Thursday at St. Paul's church at 9 o'clock by Rev. Father Stick, assisted by Revs. Joseph Meckel of Alton and J. A. Duval of Grantfork. The interment will be at the Catholic cemetery.
